I was checking to see if anyone had any interest in playing in a charity golf tournament Friday in Rocky Mount. The organizer is raising money for a new soup kitchen and homeless shelter in Rocky Mount.
Noon registration and 1 p.m. shotgun start at Northgreen Country Club.
Northgreen is where the ACC golf tournament was once held, when players like David Duval, Stewart Cink and Fred Funk played. It deteriorated after that event left, but the new owners have almost returned the course to conditions it had back in the day.
Mulligans and red tee busters will be available for sale, and contests for closest to the pin and longest drives will be in play. Plus, the prizes and gifts should be pretty good, too.
A set of Adams irons for raffle; Adams shirts and hats; towels and tees; high-dollar sunglasses from Maui Jim, NYX and Oakley. And more.
Plus, it's a great cause. A building was donated to the church - New Life Full Gospel Church - and the pastor - Tommy Ivey - wants to turn it into a new homeless shelter in the city.
If anyone has any interest or knows anyone who might want to play, call me at 252-210-2379 or email me at jeeckard2@yahoo. com. We still have spots open for both singles and teams ($50 per person and $200 for a team).
