Often we are faced with helping individuals who have somehow failed in the system. We talk about providing these people with opportunities for a second chance. But, in many cases, having a second chance is meaningless, as they never had a first chance. A child from a single parent household, living below the poverty line and growing up in an impoverished neighborhood often never has a first chance to succeed.

Union Independent School, in Northeast-Central Durham, N.C., is being developed by a growing team of community residents, leading academics, educators and business people who share a vision and commitment to drive change in this economically distressed urban community and provide a FIRST CHANCE for Durham’s inner city youth.

Union Independent School will be holding its 3rd Annual “Swing Into Spring” Charity Golf Tournament on Monday, March 23, 2009 at the prestigious Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, NC, designed by golf course architect Tom Jackson, Prestonwood has played host to some of the most celebrated talents in golf and has been a favored venue of the Senior PGA Champions Tour.
