They are designed to move as much weight as far as possible away from the club face sweet spot. Thus on off center hits, the club doesn't twist as much and the ball goes straighter. If you hit it pretty much on the sweet spot anyway it is a waste of $400, but if you have a lot of mishits on the heel or toe, it will help you keep the ball in play. Being square alone isn't going to increase distance, that is more of a function of the shaft's, kick point, torque, stiffness etc. In my opinion this makes me tilt to more hype that what they're worth.
