I personally like when there is nice scenery, but it isn't necessary to have a nice course. But I I think most would say that its looking at something something pretty and have a little rougher of a course, then having nothing to look at. I have played on two courses on the water, and they were breathtaking with dramatic cliffs down to the water. Great memories.
I wouldn't want to golf on a rough course, I mean that isn't going to help my game at all. Don't get me wrong, I love to sit and have a nice course to look at but at the same time, I'm not there for scenery.
I absolutely LOVE the site of a golf course- especially the rough ones- but I have to agree when thinking about skill- the rough ones aren't going to help any ;)
It gives you a feeling of serenity. Well it does for me I don't know about anyone else but I become peaceful and humble when I step foot out on the court but it is all due to the atmosphere and surroundings of the court.
The construction cost to even get it started starts at 1.6 million dollars. And just to get it up and running in the first place, is 10 million bucks. If it takes that much just to get it started there is no telling how much it costs just to maintain it.
