In some parts of the globe, particularly in Asia, golf is considered a game played only by the super rich-----well-paid actors, top government leaders, and moneyed business executives. I wonder why this is so. And I wonder if this is also true in the US and other parts of the world.
Why is gold associated only with the wealthy? Why not basketball? or skiing? or mountain-climbing? or boxing?
Hmm, I guess I would think because of the cost of golf. All you need to play and practice basketball is a ball and if you have hoops, even better. With golf, you need a lot of land..... that costs a lot of money, especially in Asia. So members have to pay high fees to pay for the cost of the land which makes it a very expensive sport to play.
I think in recent years, golf has lost that (can't think of word, please enter it here) and more people are able to play... in North America I mean.
"reputation" or what? There are many golf courses everywhere but to be able to play there you need to pay exorbitant annual membership fees, plus other expenses, like you need to pay for the number of balls you will use. You need to rent or buy each time certain equipment, like those who do not want to walk under the heat of the sun, would prefer to rent this golf car which is quite expensive.
I don't want the game to have that sort of elitist rep because I believe golf is too good to be made exclusive only to those who have money. What a letdown. i think there should be more affordable options for the mainstream golf enthusiasts. I hate this kind of snobbery attached to an otherwise fun game.
I have to agree that it is an elitist sport. And MHJ, I have never heard that comedy routine.... but, it costs so much to play golf that it is not available to everyone.
If you add up the cost of one day of golf, you are looking around $50, not many poor ppl can afford that.
Not that everyone can't enjoy watching it, but watching it on tv is pretty boring if you've never plaed.
