Technique for playing side hill lies

When you have to hit a golf shot on the side of a hill, and the ball is above your feet. It will automatically change the ball flight to the left. This is because the angle of the hill will close your club face during impact, this in turn, causes you to pull or sometimes hook you golf shots.

With this type of shot, you need to choke down on the shaft of the golf club, and aim 5 to 10 feet to the right of your target. When you make a normal swing and good contact with the ball, your shot should resemble a slight draw.

If the golf ball is below your feet, then the golf shot will do the opposite. During impact, unless you aim 5 to 10 feet to the left of the target, the golf ball's path will go to the right on you, producing slight fade.

The most important thing to remember when playing an uphill lie is to square your shoulders to the angle of the hill. Think of it as if you were playing the ball from a flat lie, your shoulder angle should be the same in comparison to the ground. On the uphill lie, the hill adds loft to the ball, if you are looking to hit it a certain distance, you may need to add more club.

Downhill lies are treated the same. Square your shoulders to the hill, but in the case of the downhill lie, you may need a higher lofted club.

I have found golfing downhill is difficult. It's the most difficult to me anyway. I can't seem to keep my shoulders square enough to get the ball positioned the right way when I hit it.
