Wow i have been out of town for the last month and had not taken a look untill now this site really looks to be taking off. I'm really excited to see the handicap traker working. It is really good to see a site made just for north carolina golf. Just want to say the handicap traker is great.

Yeah, We'll get it fixed by monday morning... We've been upgrading the tracker along with some new features that we hope to have out within a week or so. This has caused some bugs in the system.

I don't live in North Carolina but I thought the site was for everyone. I would like to use it to track my game. I am a bogey golfer and play a wide variety of courses in my area and other places when on vacation.
I have tried to post some scores but I have not, as yet, figured out how to do it. I have score cards on a course I played last summer that I want to put in to learn how to use the site.
Please let me know how everything works.

    Thanks,
    Joe Ed Goolsby

It is for anyone, doesn't matter where ya live... The easiest way to get started would be to log in, after logging in click on the handicap tracker link on the menu, after that you'll be brought to a page that has a menu that has "handicap overview" "post/edit scores" "course rating/slope" and "faq" , click on post edit scores,

first enter the date you played, next enter your score, then the usga rating/slope, if you don't know it click on the course lookup link... then just enter your course name, and any other optional info, hit submit, and your game has been saved to the database...

let me know if ya have any more questions...

I'm from up north in Ohio, and it looks like the weather will dip into the 20s again so I'll replace the clubs with emergency snow shovels for awhile, knowing you guys in the Carolinas are still golfing.

So, far I've entered seven scores for handicap tracking, but attempted to include a nine hole but that seemed to throw off the calculations. What slope or rating adjustments should I make to enter a nine hole score? Or, should I only enter 18 hole scores?

Yeah, golfing down here has been great lately, weather hasn't been to bad. :)

You can use your 9 hole scores, you'll just need to make a small adjustment...

Just enter the adjusted 9-hole score and course rating -- keep the slope the same as for 18 holes unless there is a separate 9-hole slope.

    Hope this helps...

Is there any way to incorporate an existing index from a different handicap tracking system without entering each score???

All handicap tracking systems only use your most recent 20 rounds played to calculate your handicap index. So, short answer No you'd have to enter in your most recent 20 rounds if you want your index from a diff tracking system. But, at least if you have way more than 20 rounds, you don't have to worry about entering them, cause they want effect your handicap index. Hope this helps, I wish we had a diff way for ya ;)

  2.
OK. All I have from previous rounds is the course rating, slope and score. Is that doable or do I have to start all over???

Actually, that's all ya need So don't worry about starting over..

I just found this site and it looks great. I'm wondering about the Handicap Tracker and how long it will retain the data I enter. I had an experience with a different on-line tracker and after a year all the data was wiped out. That was frustrating.

The data will remain yours forever :) ... We also plan on adding more features, and making the tracker even better over time, as this happens all of your scores/data will still be around you want have to worry about losing it. What site did that to ya anyway, that sounds pretty horrible..

  4.
The site I had a problem with was a golf link offered by Yahoo. The site is still there, but I have no idea where my data went. Let's hope this one works out!

I am going to enter a senior olympics the end of March and needed to establish a handicap (or play scratch, ha ha), so I just started using your system. I think it is great. Thanks a lot for providing this free of charge. As an FYI, I also tried the Yahoo handicapper. I didn't lose my scores but couldn't find out how to edit them. I found your site to be easy to use, and particularly like the ability to edit delete scores, especially since I made a mistake on the entry of a rating and had to adjust it.

Is the tracker USGA certified? Can I use the handicap for tournament play?

We use the exact same formula as the USGA, but it's not "Offical". It really just depends on what kind of tournament you're going to play in... You can always ask the tournament director if you're unsure... Cheers :)

You stated in some of the previous responses that you intend to make the tracker 'better over time'. Is adding a course 'scorecard' where we can enter the pars/yardage, individual hole scores, FH and GIR's something that you are looking at doing? I also used to use a different site (not yahoo) that you could do this at and it was very helpful in keeping track of my course performance, which holes were giving me trouble, etc.

Lokilisamo >> That's exactly what we're doing for the upgrade.. You'll have the option of entering an 18 hole score/ 9 hole, or entering in each individual hole 1 by 1.

The plan is also to make it so once a course scorecard has been added, you won't have to add it again, just your scores.

If you have any request or suggestion to help even further build upon this that would be great :)

Just that in the course 'database' make sure that we can add different tees when we enter the course information so 'us ladies' don't get left out of all the fun! :)

And that we can put information also such as FH, GIR and putts per hole when entering individual hole information. I've also found it helpful when I could enter penalty strokes per hole but have found very few sites that have that built into hole by hole information options.

    Will do... That's a great idea :)

I have put in 4 rounds of stats, 3 without the extra stats (GIR and FH, etc.) and one with. I noticed that it averages all rounds. Is there any way to have the tracker ignore the rounds recorded without the extra stats so that they do not get skewed if you just pop in a quick score?
Either way I am grateful for your work and the site. I think its great!! Thanks a lot.

I see... Looks like you've found us a little bug we've gotta fix ;) ... It's obvious we want it to average all rounds for scores, but not for GIR FH etc.. cause not everyone will record that data every time. I'll be sure to have it working as you suggested with the next upgrade of the tracker. Thanks :)

Seems the scores aren't sorting correctly. I entered some scores from 2007 and 2008 and it appears to sort by the month and ignores the year. I'd like to see it put the oldest scores at the bottom and most recent at the top and auto-sort it by date. As well, I'm concerned that in determining the last 20 scores it will drop off the wrong rounds if it drops them off by how the scores are sorted, instead of by their date.

I think I figured out by cutting the course rating and the slope in half you can enter a nine hole round and it caculates the same as entering an 18 hole round. I deleted one of my scores and cut all those numbers in half and it came up with the same handicap. Am I correct?

The data entry asks for "adjusted gross" score. What adjustments should I make?

You don't have to make any, It's just calling for your total score after adjustments.. If you have any..

Hi, I just found your site and think it's really cool.
Now I have a question and a suggestion, my question is about "index", what is your formula to calculate it? According to Wikipedia "Handicap differential = (gross score ? course rating) x 113 / (slope rating). The differential is rounded to the nearest tenth.
The handicap index is then calculated using the average of the best 10 differentials of the player's past 20 total rounds, multiplied by 0.96. Any digits in the handicap index after the tenths are truncated." -- so I think your index is actually handicap differential instead of handicap index (I can tell this by comparing my members club's numbers)-- Please correct me if I'm wrong.
And my suggestion is to create a quick "Course hadicap calculator (Course Handicap = Handicap index x Slope Rating / 113. The result is rounded to the nearest whole number.)" then your site is going to be awesome.

Thank you very much for your time and I hope your site stay free.

We can do that... I can get a link in the menu bar up maybe within this next week, that'll have a "Quick Course Handicap Calculator" For all members to use...

You don't have to "hope" the site will stay free... We have no intentions of ever making this site a paid subscription...

I would like to enter 9 hole scores. I did as was suggested and divided the rating and index by 2 but my average score is incorrectly computed.

@ Gary.. how many scores did you enter..  the way our handicap tracker works, is it only uses the most recent 20 rounds..
