Inaugural Duke Coca-Cola Individual Collegiate Captured by Chauncey

North Carolina’s Philip Chauncey fired a final-round 2-under 69 to overcome a five-shot deficit and claim the Inaugural Duke Coca-Cola Individual Collegiate at Duke University Golf Club on Tuesday.

Chauncey, a native of Durham, finished at 1-over 214 and won by three strokes over Florida’s Tim McKinney. Chauncey’s 69 was one of just three under-par rounds in Tuesday’s final round.

Chauncey posted 16 pars and two birdies for the only bogey-free round of the tournament. He opened the day with four straight pars before carding his first birdie on the 399-yard, par-4 fifth hole. He then recorded 10 straight pars before moving to 2 under with a birdie on No. 16. He closed out the round with pars on No. 17 and No. 18.

McKinney closed with a final-round 73. The trio of Tripp Brizendine (East Carolina), Carter Newman (Augusta State) and Chase MacFarland (North Carolina) finished tied for third at 6-over 219.
